Spanish Colony And Empire

Bolivia

(Viceroyalty of Peru, Villa Imperial of Potosi)

- MILLED COINAGE -

PILLAR DESIGN (1732-1771)

Carlos III (1759-1788)

1770 JR 2 Reales

Condition:  XF40 (NGC Certified)

Krause Mishler #:
Gilboy #: P-2-4a (R2)

Beautiful toning and nice details.  Pillar examples from Bolivia are difficult to find, this is my only one - former Whittier Collection.

NGC slabbed it as dot over mint mark, which is obviously wrong.  I also believe this to be a die  marriage between Gilboy P-2-4 (obverse) and P-2-4a (reverse).

PORTRAIT DESIGN (1772-1821)

Carlos III, Cont.

1774 JR 2 Reales

Condition:  XF

Krause Mishler #: 53

Good date for the type.  Slightly polished, but attractive details and even strike.

1787 PR 2 Reales

Condition:  VF

Krause Mishler #: 53

Despite the wear, I like this coin.  It seems to have added to the overall character.

Carlos IV (1788-1808)

1808 PJ 2 Reales

Condition:  XF

Krause Mishler #: 83

Excellent condition, strike a little off center.  Beginning to tone nicely.
