11/5/06: I have a lot of
updating to do. I sent in my first set of coins to be professionally
graded (PCGS), and I hope to get those back soon. In the mean time,
I attended a couple shows in Kansas City. So far, I have only posted
one image - a nice 1887 proof shilling under Great Britain in the Misc.
World category. Hope to post some more soon.
9/23/06: Made a visit to the
local coin shop today, and picked up a nice german states 20 kruezer from
Wurzburg. While adding the image, I noticed that page needs some
serious work... That's about it.
9/12/06: Added to my growing
collection of early Mexican 2 Reales - 1763. I believe this is the
finest addition so far. Excellent, well centered strike with sharp
details. If you don't like that coin, you just don't like pillars!
8/19/06: I attended the
Wichita Coin & Stamp show today. It was a decent show, although
I would have liked to have made the trip to Denver to attend the ANA
show. I found a few coins to add to my British collection, including
a 1745 George II LIMA Type Shilling and an excellent grade George II
Sixpence.
7/24/06: Posted a new
purchase from Civitas Galleries. If you have never purchased from
their website, I highly recommend them. There is a link to their
site above. Oh yeah - the coin! 1749
Netherlands 10 Stuiver, graded by NGC as MS64. BEAUTIFUL!
7/4/06: My pick-ups from the
Heritage Long Beach auction are posted. I took the images from their
website and clipped them up to match my format. That's going to have
to do until I get a little better with my photography skills, I
guess. My images all came out blurry. I found a website that
is very helpful with coin photography - so hopefully I will get a set up
together and soon be snapping my own pictures. Hope everyone is
having a good 4th.
6/29/06: I have recently
updated my library with Overton's book on Bust Half Dollars (so far, I
have identified my 1826 in the Bust Half section of US coins). Also,
I have added a copy of Spink's 2006 for my Great Britain coins, and
Newcomb's United States Copper Cents (which I find terribly hard to
use). I also have received two 2 reales (one from Bolivia - scratch
that one off the want list! - and the second from Peru). Both nice
coins, and I hope to have them added up to my website this week.
That's about it!
6/18/06: Updated Mexico
(under Spanish Colony) to reflect my father's day/birthday gift. The
image was actually taken with my other gift - a new Sony digital camera,
which I'm just starting to play with.
5/15/06: Man! The more work
I do, the more work there seems to need be done! The projection I
mentioned on yesterday's update has given me a chance to do some
housekeeping - streamlining appearance and such. I added a couple
copper pieces to Great Britain, and moved Straits Settlements to that page
as a colony, as a result of the project, that seemed to make sense.
5/14/06: I'm in the middle
of launching a new project in my world coin section. Right now, I'm
about half way to completing all the countries I have listed there, but
the project itself will be on-going, as I find more information to
list. If you find any mistakes, please let me know - or if you know
of additional information that would be helpful - I would appreciate it if
you would drop me an email on that, too.
5/12/06: Just realized today
- this website is nearly 1 year old. Doesn't seem that long.
Just added to my bust half collection - a nice 1826 example. As some
people have noticed, I did put up a few pieces for sale. Nothing eye
popping there - no collection center-pieces to be found. It's mostly
for trade purposes and keeping my collection evolving without blowing my
budget. If you find something there you like, shoot me an email -
prices are negotiable, and trade is always an option.
4/29/06: Two new
additions on this update - I know it's been a while. I added a 1827
Bust Half Dollar to my US collection, and a nice 1/4 Thaler from Austria
(1740) to my Misc. World.
3/5/06: Added a new
piece to my Great Britain collection - and quite honestly, probably the
best addition to my collection to date - a 1776
Guinea. This example has evidence of a clashed die on the bust,
and is a fantastic example of the type.
2/19/06: Added a new
page under My Spanish Colonial section for Guatemala. I also added
up some new images of coins I purchased at this weekend's show in Wichita
(well worth the drive).
2/2/06: Added some nice
copper pieces to the misc. world section. Among the updates were Denmark
(added a rigsbankskilling and a bank token), Great Britain (added a
half penny, George III), and the Netherlands (added a coin from the East
Indies)
1/8/06: I added up my
Christmas stash. Three new additions to the US large cent string,
including one upgrade. Also added a 1744 1 real from Mexico and a 2
reales from Bolivia to the Spanish Colonial section. I also added a
new page to catalog my current numismatic library material.
12/22/05: Ok, so no
updates this month... Have to wait until after Christmas, and see what
Santa brings me. It's been a pretty quiet month. I don't have
much to add, but I did add up a picture of an 1867 Shilling under Great
Britain. That's about it.
11/21/05: Last
weekend, I attended the annual show sponsored by the Topeka Coin
Club. I didn't purchase much, but I did find an 1818
Large Cent to add to my copper string. It's been a slow month,
but I'm gearing up for the holidays.
11/5/05: I added a couple of Large
Cents to the US Section. Some pages were becoming difficult for
dial-up users (like myself) to load, so I re-worked the indexing so fewer
images can be viewed at once. Again, I think some people will like
it, and others... not so much. It was mostly a utility change.
10/15/05: Well, I didn't log my last
update. As some of you know, I attended a show last weekend. I
picked up some nice over-dated Spanish Colonial 2 reales, and a rare
variety from the Peruvian colony. I also purchased some US stuff,
including another gold half eagle and a pretty good looking bust dime and
half dollar. It was a good show with a decent turn out.
10/1/05: Back from Madison, WI. Work went
well, but no time left over for coin hunting, so I will have to return
some day. Special thanks to Chris (AKA Cave Troll from CoinTalk).
Chris helped me out with Overton information for my bust half
selection.
9/24/05: Updated My Spanish Colonies section
with a new example - I upgraded the sad 1755 2 Reales. Also updated
my essay sections with something new. Tomorrow it is off to Madison,
WI for 6 days for work - if anyone knows of a good coin shop in the
location, shoot me an email! That's about it.
9/18/05: Few changes to the website layout.
Some may like it, others probably won't. I adjusted the tables so that
each row is shows one coin with the details to the left. I think this
will let me add more information about certain coins without having to mess up
the layout for the rest of the page. I also added a few pieces from
Norway to the World Coin section - hope you like them.
9/13/05: Today I added some 8 Reales I picked up
from a local shop I found in an antique mall. Never knew it was there,
until I fell over it this last weekend. I also added a couple more Bust
Halves and a Large Cent to the US section (which I organized a little more
with separate tables). Hope you enjoy them.
8/26/05: I repeat, it's been a busy month.
Added this week: a wonderful example of an 1844 O Seated Liberty Half
Dollar. This coin was gifted to my collection by a very generous
friend. I also added the first certified coins to my collection - 1798
& 99 1R, graded XF and AU, respectively, by NGC.
8/22/05: It's been a busy month - I added a great
bust half and a nice half eagle to my US collection. I also added a rare
variety of the 1769 1 Reale (6 in date over 7) and a beautiful example of a
1742 2 Reale.
8/14/05: Today, I added Iran to the mix under the
Misc. World section. There's a coin there (not sure it's a coin exactly)
that I have not been able to identify. The date doesn't seem to make
sense, so it must be some sort of commemorative medal of some sort. If
anyone knows anything about this piece, please email me. Also, on a
great suggestion, I reversed the order of these 'notes' so the new entries
appear first.
I also added a link to Dan Sedwick's website. If you
like coins of the Spanish Colonies - that's THE place to find them.
8/8/05: Added some stuff in the US and Spanish Colony
sections. I decided to start up a large cent collection, but it's a side
project. I consolidated some pieces in my US collection and traded them
off for the busted half examples.
7/24/05: Moved the notes down here so people wouldn't have to
scroll past them. I'll probably be removing them completely, soon - they
were placed here for a friends who were helping me out with the layout and
design.
7/18/05: Added some modern proof examples to
Russia and Switzerland.
6/13/05: Sorry I haven't done much on my site
this week. I was out of town on business, and didn't have much time left
over the weekend to get much done.
6/5/05: Haven't done much with the site this week
- been busy at work. I did add Coins from Cuba, Straights Settlements,
Sweden, and Tunisia today.
5/30/05: Nobody can say I haven't gotten my fair
use from this scanner. I have updated several countries, and added
images for Russia and Greece.
5/28/05: Now you can now click on the name of any
coin listed on this sight to see a full page image. Updated US Coins, so now a
few examples from my collection are represented on that page.
5/27/05: I've been working on the appearance of
some pages, and I split 'misc. world coins' into several subsections, by
country, to allow for more images. Many countries have not yet been
completed, but I added them to the list for future use.
5/22/05: I split the images into separate index
pages, so it will hopefully load easier.
5/21/05: I decided to create this website to
share some of my collection with friends and family. I'm not sure, quite
yet, how I plan to develop the layout, but I guess we'll see how it evolves as
I add more images and updates, over time. If you stumbled across this
site, these coins are not for sale.
